men in the pink tutu, in brightly colored tights or stark naked with a body control rehearsing in apparently all muscle fibers of the choreography. Shine sprays, taped nipples, braces, distorted faces - from pain? with laughter? - Stretched over the body, in messy untidy hotel rooms, in kitchens, next to the toilet. Shrill and still. Alexandra Thompson leads in her solo show to look behind the scenes of the stage, into the lives of the dancers. The photos were taken in the last ten years in New York and Vienna.

The image "Tutu", shows the torso of a dancer, in a shrill Pink, to both arms up into pink stockings packed, he declines concentrated at the wall, only to break out of ideas for himself and his work. "The Boy" is again calm, the face of a 17-year-old, yet somehow lost overwhelmed, somehow, one can see that he does not know what he wants.
"There, that's who I saw," said Alex Thompson, "because that is who I've seen." The photographer looks for the invisible thread that connects them with the world she depicts. Interests you the stuff under the surface, which says: "Here I am I'm a little crazy or sad or broken, just like you."
Some portraits are shrill and loud, some quiet, some occur with a single Photo, others spent years working with a person. "The real conversation," what has really captured the camera when shooting, she sees only later, in the portrait. There are pictures of everyday life of the dancers behind the scenes. Pictures of people who live a bit mad or sad or broken, are people who think the cross, the "out of the box" and work.
"Shoot them as you see them" has the filmmaker Robert Altman once said to Alex Thompson, he was thrilled with their pictures, gave her first professional job as a photographer, but later it was his official location photographer - and: it has held at its tip, they photographed the men as they sees.
FotoWerk-Vienna presents "Inside (s) out" a review of the portraits of the last ten years and remains true to the motto of showing images of life.
